1

Preheat your griddle

Don’t skip this part! Give it at least 15-20 minutes to fully come up to temp over the whole griddle surface over medium-low heat.

2

Lay down a generous layer of oil

Don’t skimp! You don’t want it to be excessive, but you don’t want it to be light.

3

Put the fries down in a single layer

Don’t just dump the whole bag of frozen fries on the griddle in one big heap. That’s a great way to warp your griddle. Grab handfuls and sprinkle the fries onto the griddle to evenly distribute them in a single layer.

4

Cook

If you have a cover, use it. You don’t HAVE to use a cover to make this work, but it will speed things up a bit.

5

Don’t flip until they are brown!

Over-working these are the most common reason that people have trouble with frozen fries on the griddle. Don’t flip them until they are browned, and repeat until all sides are as crispy as you like them.

What are the best seasonings for French fries?

My all-time favorite for French fries is really always a forever the classic…salt.

Preferably the fine-grain stuff so it sticks really well, too.

My second favorite is Lawry’s Seasoning Salt. If you can’t find Lawry’s by you, Johnny’s Seasoning Salt is also a good alternative.

Want to get crazy? Order up this popcorn seasoning variety pack from Spiceology, and try to sprinkle some of the Truffle Parmesan Blend, Jalapeno Popper Blend, Blue Cheese Buffalo Blend, or their Pizza Cheese Blend. You will not regret it!

Fries are great with our Over the Top Sloppy Joes too!

Griddle Frozen Fries FAQ

What brands of fries are best?

All of the major brands of frozen fries are okay to use for this method. I’m a sucker for Ore Ida Crispers, but last time I looked I couldn’t find them. Womp womp. I like crinkle cut over other types but you could make even steak fries with this method.

How long does it take to cook fries on the griddle from frozen?

It takes about 15-20 minutes. It would probably take about the same amount of time to cook them in the oven. It also depends on where you set your griddle temp too. Medium should keep the surface temp at around 375-400°, which is what we’re going for here.
