Blue Hawaiian Long Island

This Blue Hawaiian Long Island is a tropical twist on a classic party drink. It’s bold, beautiful, and definitely not shy about the booze. You’ve got all the usual suspects: vodka, gin, tequila, blended with coconut rum and blue curacao for that signature ocean-blue color and a sweet island vibe. Finished with lemon-lime soda, it’s bright, bubbly, and perfect for summer nights, beach parties, or any time you’re looking to shake things up. Easy to mix, easy to customize, and always a conversation starter.

Blue Hawaiian Long Island

You guys know by now that my love for blue drinks and fun cocktails is pretty intense. I have this awesome Baby Blue Punch (great for a blue baby shower!) and I know you all love my frozen raspberry pina colada.

It’s a good idea to pace yourself with this one. There’s a lot going on behind that electric blue color, but it’s balanced out by the soda and coconut rum, which keep it smooth.

This drink is all about fun. It’s flashy, fruity, and looks great in a tall glass over ice. Want it a little less strong? Add extra soda or shake it with more ice before serving.

Keep this one in your back pocket for backyard hangouts, BBQs, or game nights. People love it because it looks great and hits quick. Make a pitcher or mix one at a time. It’s fast either way.

Why You’ll Love This Drink

  • Striking Color – That bold blue gets attention every time.
  • Strong But Smooth – A mix of spirits with coconut and citrus to round it out.
  • Quick To Mix – Just pour, stir, and serve.
  • Perfect Party Vibe – Looks fun, tastes like summer.
  • Easily Adjustable – Add soda to lighten it up or skip one spirit to tweak the strength

  • Blue Curacao – Bright blue liqueur with sweet orange flavor. Adds color and citrus.
  • Coconut Rum – Brings that tropical, beachy feel and smooths out the sharpness of the other spirits.
  • Gin – Herbaceous and sharp. Part of the classic Long Island base.
  • Vodka – Clean spirit that blends into the background but adds kick.
  • Silver Tequila – Adds depth and bite. Choose a decent one for a smoother finish.
  • Lemon-Lime Soda – Balances the booze with fizz and citrusy sweetness. Sprite or 7Up both work great.

Recipe FAQ

Are Blue Hawaiian Cocktails strong?

Long Islands get a pretty bad rap, sometimes. Mostly from people who try and tackle these as an all-night cocktail, and drink too many and then feel like death the next day.

Long Islands pack a pretty significant punch in the alcohol department, so use caution or cut these a bit more with some extra sprite if you lean towards “lightweight”. That's generally my plan of attack.

I don't know what kind of magic happens in a traditional Long Island to make a glass that's 3/4 of the way filled with liquor taste like there is very little actual booze inside it, but I like it – either way.

What kind of alcohol is in a Long Island?

I think the better question is what kind of alcohol is NOT, as Long Islands have a bit of everything.
– vodka
– gin
– rum
– white tequila
– triple sec

How is a Blue Hawaiian different than a traditional Long Island?

The difference is in the addition of blue Curacao, and we sub in a lemon-lime soda instead of the cola that gives the Long Island Iced Tea it's tea-like color.
