Traeger Tater Tot Hot Dish

Traeger Tater Tot Casserole

If you’re from Minnesota – apologies for calling our Tater Tot Hotdish the “c” word. I know what it really is, down in my heart, but it turns out more people are out there looking for a casserole recipe instead of our beloved hot dish, so here we are.

This is a true meat-and-potatoes classic. Hearty ground beef gets browned, combined with some peas, carrots, and green beans, and then we pour over a can of canned Beefy Mushroom soup and add extra mushrooms and a little touch of sherry. Then it gets topped with tater tots, and “baked” on the Traeger until the tater tots are golden brown.

You can also throw on some cheese if that’s your thing. I didn’t this time, but it is always an option when discussing a hot dish.

Speaking of changing things, you could doctor this up in many different ways to suit your tastes or what you have. Many people use cream of mushroom soup instead of the beefy mushroom. That is a great option if that’s what you have on hand.

Traeger Tater Tot Casserole FAQ

Can this recipe be made in advance?

Yes! This is a great dish to assemble ahead of time. You can precook it even and then have leftovers for several days. This also makes a great freezer meal or a meal to prep and bring to a friend or family member who needs a hearty homecooked meal that they can pop in the oven.

What’s the best way to store and reheat the leftovers?

Store these in any airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. It will keep in the freezer for several months. For reheating, the oven or air fryer is ideal if you want crunchy tater tots. If you don’t care so much about the crunch, the microwave will work just fine.

Well, to put it simply: this casserole hits the spot! Cheesy, meaty, and those tots---so crispy! Took the Tobasco sauce advice, and boom – spicy perfection! You can feel the kick but not overpowering.
