Raspberry Margaritas

Raspberry Margarita Recipe

Margaritas are a classic cocktail, but for those of us who have a sweet spot for sweet drinks, the flavored variety might be more up your alley.

You can make the mixers from scratch if you'd like, or you can buy them pre-made. Making them will yield a MUCH better drink. I was a bartender for over 10 years, off and on, and the places that I worked that made their own mixers generally served a lot more drinks of this nature than those who bought premade sweet and sour.

Try these pretty Flower Ice Cubes to add some WOW to this drink!

Recipe FAQ

What's in a margarita?

A traditional margarita has tequila, sour mix, and lime. Some versions skip the sour mix and go right for simple syrup, booze, and lime and that's all she wrote. Your average margarita will include some sour though, almost anywhere you buy one.

From there, you can flavor the margaritas however you'd like. I like to blend frozen fruit up and combine to flavor them that way, but using pre-made syrups is a great substitution if you want to have margaritas on a Tuesday with your tacos without a huge production.

What kind of raspberry sauce works best?

Raspberry sauce tastes best when you use fresh raspberries. I make my own pretty regularly when they are in season. Here is my recipe for Raspberry Sauce.

If you don't want to make your own, this is a good substitute as well.

Can you make your own sour mix?

For a good scratch-made sweet and sour mixer, I have a great recipe for homemade sweet and sour mix, too. I usually watch for lemons and limes to go on sale and then stock up to make a big batch. You can freeze any excess you won't drink in a week to ten days and always have fresh homemade sour mix around.

    1. You could use either version. It just depends on how sweet you like your cocktail. I use a homemade sweetened raspberry sauce typically, but I like it on the sweeter side.
